Dominican Republic is part of the Caribbean and occupies two-thirds of the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola. It is famous for its white sandy beaches and stunning natural scenery. Mostly, you will need to take charter flights from other Caribbean Islands to get to the Dominican Republic. For most visitors, the visa entrance is free but you need to purchase a tourist card upon arrival which will detail information on your stay. Once in the capital, you can hire a taxi or rental car that will take you to the hotel nearest you. Currency used here is the Dominican peso, which you can change at the airport. There are numerous car hire is available for tourists, with Hertz, Avis etc provides quality services. Fuel here is expensive and can add to your overall lease costs. You can also reach the country on boats and cruises that goes from Puerto Rico and other Caribbean Islands to the capital, Santo Domingo. Other options include a bus or a truck that you can rent, it can take you around the island with ease, though you need to take care of your luggage in any long-term movement.

Most of the people here are friendly and speak the language of Spain, because it is the holiday destination you will find some people speak in United Kingdom. The locals are very helpful and willing to help if you're polite with them. Some people also speak French, because some Haitians are also located here. Accommodation is not a big deal if you have booked your room and the hotel in advance.

Food & Shopping
 
The food here is similar to other Caribbean Islands with spices and fruits that forms the main flavors. Seafood is also available and many dishes of fish and other sea creatures. Shopping is also fun in Santo Domingo because there are many different shopping malls where you can buy local handicrafts. You can buy a lot of gifts that are cheap here mostly made from local ingredients. Some stores also sell branded goods, but they are very expensive

Vigilance
Finally, you should be aware that malaria is a problem in the Dominican Republic and you should always be wary of these and other diseases. Try to cover themselves by clothing full sleeves at night to guard against attacks of mosquitoes.
